Carousel vs profile grid

A profile puzzle is nine posts. A carousel is one post you swipe. The same ZIP can feed both, and the order changes. Publish split_3_3.png first on a profile, because the newest post sits at the top-left. Add split_1_1.png first in a carousel. Photos are not uploaded.

Make the files once

  1. Open split photo. It starts at 3 rows and 3 columns, gap 0%, margin 0%. Leave both at 0 if the pieces should meet.
  2. Rows and columns each run from 1 to 10. A profile puzzle uses 3 and 3. A tall carousel strip is often 1 row and 3 columns, not a 3×3.
  3. Press Export ZIP. The file is split_images_ plus a timestamp. Inside, row 1 is the top and column 1 is the left. A 3×3 runs from split_1_1.png to split_3_3.png.
  4. Gap and margin are strips left out of the pieces, not lines drawn back in. On a 1080 square at 3×3 with both at 0, each PNG is 360×360. The 3×3 guide has the rest of that arithmetic.

Profile order

The profile grid shows the newest post at the top-left. If you publish split_1_1.png first, that top-left piece ends up at the bottom-right of the grid by the time the ninth post is up. Publish in reverse. The 3×3 guide walks that order post by post. This page only needs the rule: bottom-right file first, top-left file last.

After the first row of three posts, look at the profile. The thumbnail may not be the full tile. If the thumbnail ratio and the slice differ, the seams break even when the files meet. Square slices are the usual fix. The Instagram sizes page is where the feed ratio range is quoted. This page does not repeat that table.

Carousel order

A carousel plays in the order you add the files. Add split_1_1.png, then the rest of row 1, then row 2, then split_3_3.png. That is the reading order of the original photo, left to right, top to bottom.

Use the same ratio on every slide. If the first slide is 4:5 and a later slide is square, Instagram crops the later ones to the first frame. The tool cannot stop that. It only gives you the PNGs. Pick the ratio before you export, and export every piece from the same rows, columns, gap, and margin.

A 1×3 split is a different file set. You get split_1_1.png, split_1_2.png, and split_1_3.png, three slices of one row. Add them left to right. Do not mix a 1×3 ZIP with a 3×3 ZIP and expect one picture.

Collage87 does not post, and it does not know the app’s slide cap. The ZIP is the whole product. If the app refuses a slide, that limit is the app’s, not a number this page will invent.

Do not swap the orders

Profile order on a carousel plays the picture backwards, from the bottom-right toward the top-left. Carousel order on a profile finishes with the top-left piece in the newest slot, so the puzzle reads upside down relative to the photo. The files are fine. The sequence is the mistake.

WeChat Moments is a third order. It is one post of up to nine images, selected left to right, which is the carousel direction, not the profile direction. That page is separate so this one stays about Instagram.

Questions

Can one ZIP do both?

Yes. Export once at 3×3 with gap 0 and margin 0. Publish bottom-right first for a profile. Add top-left first for a carousel.

Should the gap be 0 for a carousel too?

Yes if you want the slices to contain the whole photo. Gap throws those pixels away. A carousel has no gutter between slides, so a missing strip shows up as a jump.

How many slides can a carousel hold?

This page does not say. The app decides. Collage87 only writes the PNGs into the ZIP.

Does split photo upload the image?

No. The cut happens in the browser. Export ZIP downloads the archive to your computer.
