Cut the photo first

1. Open split photo. Leave rows at 3 and columns at 3. Leave gap at 0% and margin at 0%. Both sliders start at 0 on this tool.
2. Gap is a percent of the photo width, and the same percent of the height, after rotate or flip. Those pixels are omitted from the pieces. On a 1080 square, gap 0 gives nine 360×360 PNGs. Gap 5% gives 324×324. A Moments grid with a missing strip will not meet.
3. Press Export ZIP. The archive is split_images_ plus a timestamp. Row 1 is the top. Column 1 is the left.
4. In Moments, add the nine files in the table order. Do not sort the picker by time if that sorts them backwards. The names are the order.
5. Square pieces are the usual grid. A wide source still becomes nine pieces of the source’s ratio. Moments then fits them in its own cells. The tool does not preview that fit.

Why the Instagram order breaks it

An Instagram profile puzzle is nine posts. The newest sits at the top-left, so you publish split_3_3.png first. If you select files in that Instagram order inside one Moments post, the bottom-right piece is selected first and lands at the top-left of the nine. The picture reads flipped relative to the photo.

A carousel on Instagram is closer to Moments. You add split_1_1.png first. The difference is the container. A carousel is one swipeable post. Moments is up to nine images in one post, shown as a grid, not as slides. Do not publish nine separate Moments posts and expect a profile-style puzzle. Each new Moments post is its own card.

The tool stops at the ZIP. It has no WeChat login, no account, and no way to send the files. If Moments crops a thumbnail, that crop is in the app. Collage87 cannot see it.

Fewer than nine

You do not have to use all nine. A 2×2 is rows 2 and columns 2, four files, select split_1_1.png through split_2_2.png. A single row of three is rows 1 and columns 3, files split_1_1.png, split_1_2.png, and split_1_3.png. Select them left to right. Rows and columns each go from 1 to 10, so a 4×4 is possible in the ZIP and will not fit a nine-image Moments post. Export only what the post can hold.

The collage is the wrong tool if you want one image that already contains the grid. Moments would then show one picture, not nine. Split photo is the one that makes the nine files.

Check the first three names

Before you leave the picker, read the first three filenames. They should be split_1_1.png, split_1_2.png, and split_1_3.png. If the first name is split_3_3.png, you are holding the Instagram profile sequence. Stop and select again. That sequence is correct for nine separate Instagram posts and wrong for one Moments post.

A 1080×1080 source at 3×3 with gap 0 and margin 0 gives nine 360×360 files. If the ZIP instead holds 324×324 files, gap was at 5% and a 54 pixel strip is missing between pieces. Re-export at 0. Do not try to close that gap inside WeChat. The pixels are not in the files.

The archive name is split_images_ plus a timestamp. The names inside are stable. If you export twice, you get two archives. Use one archive for the post so you do not mix a gapped set with a zero-gap set.
