Repeat a photo as a tile
Photo tile repeats one image and exports one PNG. Rows and columns run from 1 to 20. Scale runs from 0.1× to 5×. Width is the photo width times columns times scale. The tool copies the cell and does not blend edges. Photos are not uploaded.

What you get back
The page opens at 3 rows, 3 columns, and scale 1. Export PNG is named photo-tile- plus a timestamp. One file, not a ZIP. Rotate and flip happen before the repeat, so a 90 degree turn swaps width and height and then that rectangle is copied.
Output width is photo width × columns × scale. Output height is photo height × rows × scale. A 1000×1000 photo at 10×10 and scale 1 is 10000×10000. Scale 2 on that same grid is 20000×20000. Scale 5 is 50000×50000. A large grid can fail in the tab because the canvas is that many pixels. Start at scale 1 and a small count, then raise one of them.
Setups that match a job
| Job | Start at | What will be true |
|---|---|---|
| A small repeated motif for a post | 3×3, scale 1 | Nine copies in one PNG. A line at every edge of the cell unless the photo already tiles. |
| More copies, same size cell | Raise rows and columns, leave scale at 1 | The file grows by the count. 20×20 at scale 1 is 400 copies. |
| Bigger copies, same count | Leave 3×3, raise scale | Scale 2 doubles each cell. The seam does not get softer. |
| A sheet you hope is seamless | The motif you designed to tile | The tool will not hide the join. If the edges do not match, you will see them. |
Seams are the point of the limit
There is no blend control, no offset, and no mirror mode. The cell is drawn, then drawn again beside it. A portrait, a snapshot, or a logo with a plain margin will show a grid of edges. That can be what you want. It is not a failure of the export.
If you need several different photos in one frame, this is the wrong tool. Photo tile has one source. The collage puts a different photo in each cell and writes one PNG. Split photo cuts one photo into a ZIP. Which tool is the short page for that choice.
A safe way to export
- Upload the photo. The button says Upload Photo. The page names JPEG, PNG, and WebP.
- Set rows and columns. The sliders stop at 20. The labels are Rows and Columns.
- Leave Scale at 1. Look at the output size the page shows before you raise it.
- Press Export PNG. If the tab stalls, lower the count or the scale and export again. The tool does not queue a server job. Closing the tab drops the photo.
- Do not expect the collage to import the tile settings. If the tiled PNG should sit inside a collage, export first, then upload that PNG on the collage page.
The preview is not the file
The preview fits the repeated grid into a box of about 1200 pixels on the long side. It uses the row count and the column count. It does not apply Scale. Scale 1 and scale 5 can look the same on screen. The PNG does not. Scale 5 multiplies both the width and the height of the export by 5.
Read the output size on the page before you press Export PNG. That line is photo width times columns times scale, by photo height times rows times scale. If it says something like 10000×10000, that is the file, not the preview. A laptop can fail to allocate a canvas that large. Lower Scale back to 1, or lower the count, and export again.
The preview canvas is created with alpha turned off, then filled white, then the tiles are drawn. That white belongs to the preview. Export builds a second canvas. It clears the pixels and draws the tiles. It does not paint the white fill. A PNG from a photo that already has transparent pixels can keep them. Judge the file, not the white box on the page.
A 1×1 grid at scale 1 writes the photo once, as one PNG. Scale moves in steps of 0.1 and cannot go below 0.1. Scale 0.1 on a 4000 pixel wide photo makes each cell 400 pixels wide. Columns then multiply that width. A 1×10 grid at scale 0.1 is a strip of ten small copies, not a 10× enlargement.
Questions
Will the tool hide the seams?
No. It copies the cell. A seam shows wherever the edges do not already match.
How big can the PNG get?
Width is photo width times columns times scale. Height uses rows the same way. 20 columns and scale 5 multiply the width by 100. Start smaller if the tab struggles.
Is a 20×20 grid 400 photos?
It is 400 copies of the one photo you uploaded. The tool does not take 400 different files.
Are the photos uploaded?
No. Photo tile runs in the browser. Export PNG downloads photo-tile- and a timestamp.
