Layouts for 2, 3, and 4 photos
The layout buttons set the cell count. 2 Photos (V) draws a vertical line, so the photos sit side by side. 2 Photos (H) draws a horizontal line, so they stack. The page opens on 4 Photos (Grid), a 2×2. Export PNG is one file at the canvas size. The photos are not uploaded.

|---|---|---|---|
| 2, side by side | 2 Photos (V) | One row, two equal cells | 2 Photos (H), which stacks them |
| 2, one above the other | 2 Photos (H) | One column, two equal cells | 2 Photos (V) |

| 3, one tall photo on the left | 2+1 Mixed (V) | Left, one tall cell. Right, two stacked cells | The name says 2+1. The tall cell is still the left one |

Pick the button from the photo, not from the count
Two portraits that should stand next to each other belong on 2 Photos (V). Two that should read as a before and after, top then bottom, belong on 2 Photos (H). The V and the H are the line between them. If the pair looks wrong, you pressed the other button. You do not rotate the canvas to fix that.
Three photos have two mixed buttons, and they are not mirrors. 1+2 Mixed (H) gives the top photo the full width and splits the bottom. Use it when one picture is the caption for the pair under it, or when the top shot is wide and the other two are details. 2+1 Mixed (V) gives the left photo the full height. Use it when one picture is tall and the other two are small squares stacked on the right. If you want three equal columns, skip both buttons.
Four equal photos are the default, 4 Photos (Grid). Press it again if a custom grid has wandered. The cells start equal. You can drag the dividers after that. Each cell still takes its own upload.
When the buttons run out
Set Rows, then the slider for each row. The Rows field stops at 10. Each row stops at 5 cells. Horizontal labels those as rows and as columns per row. Vertical swaps the words on the labels. The export is still one PNG.
Three equal columns are a custom grid, 1 row with the slider at 3. A strip of four is 1 row at 4. A column of three is 3 rows at 1 cell each, or simply 2 Photos (H) if you only have two. There is no 3×3 button. A 3×3 of equal cells is also a bad way to cut one photo for Instagram. That job is split photo, which opens at 3×3 and writes a ZIP.
Export size for these layouts
The layout does not set the pixel size. The size control does. Square is 1200×1200. IG Portrait is 1080×1350. IG Story is 1080×1920. FB Post is 1200×630. FB Cover is 1920×721. Width and height override the preset. Export PNG uses pixel ratio 1, and the file is named collage- plus a timestamp.
Spacing and Outer Margin start at 1% of the shorter canvas side and can go to 20%. At 1% the cells do not quite touch. Set Spacing to 0 when the photos should share an edge. Roundness starts at 1% and goes to 50% of the shorter side of the cell. For a hard rectangle, set it to 0.
Instagram's resolution help page, checked 2026-10-26, keeps a feed photo between 1.91:1 and 3:4 and sizes width above 1080 down to 1080. IG Portrait, 1080×1350, sits inside that range. It is 4:5, not the tall edge. The tall edge the page names is 3:4, 1080×1440, which you type. IG Story is 1080×1920, taller than that range, so use it for a story. The full table is on the Instagram sizes page. FB Post and FB Cover are presets in this tool, not a size Facebook requires.
A side-by-side pair on a square canvas makes two tall cells. If those cells feel too narrow, use a wider canvas, such as 1200×630, or stack them with 2 Photos (H) on a square. The button will not change the canvas for you.
Questions
What does the V on 2 Photos (V) mean?
A vertical divider. The two photos sit side by side. 2 Photos (H) is the horizontal divider, one photo above the other.
How do I get three equal photos in a row?
Skip the mixed buttons. Set 1 row and move that row's slider to 3. The slider stops at 5. Rows stop at 10.
Does the layout change the PNG size?
No. Export PNG matches the width and height on the size control. The default is 1200×1200. Pixel ratio is 1.
Why do the photos not touch?
Spacing starts at 1%. Set it to 0%. The value is a percent of the shorter canvas side, and the maximum is 20%.
